The BRAVE Movement
To realize our vision of educational transformation in Sierra Leone, we must work through the challenge of disrupting the norms that have been ingrained, and are the invisible traps that hold the people back. As rich and beautiful as Sierra Leonean culture is, many customs of Sierra Leone discourage risk taking, boldness, and individual voice. Fears, challenges, and mistakes are swept under the rug, and honest expression, vulnerability, and asking for help can often be misinterpreted as signs of weakness. Now, more than ever, do we need to overcome this, as it’s an essential ingredient for helping our children heal from the personal loss and trauma of living through the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak. Together with our community, Shine On is forging a new Brave path, shattering this ceiling of preconceived notions.
Shine On Sierra Leone and David & Goliath have joined forces to create “Today, I’m Brave” – A movement that inspires people all over the world to live the Brave lifestyle of overcoming fears, creating and following a path, and following one’s dreams.
